A half day eco-tourism experience of 4 hours visiting “The Grange on Kalgan” – a small farming and lifestyle property 22kms outside Albany overlooking the Kalgan River…

  • Visit some spectacular scenery in Albany before learning about the eco-systems at Oyster harbour, visit the fish traps and then travelling to the property
  • View sustainable practices with free range chicken areas, recycled materials, organically grown produce and solar energy supply
  • The property has some historical significance with a 100 year old country cottage and being part of one of the original fruit growing areas in WA with remnant mulberry, cherry plum and pear trees
  • Widespread planting of native trees and shrubs including karri, acacias, melaleucas, casuarinas, banksias, bottlebrush, marri, tuart, wandoo, flowering red gum etc that have been planted to provide micro-ecosystems for bird habitats
  • Extensive plantings of native flora have formed conservation reserves and landscaping and created garden beds, pathways, water features, Japanese Garden, artificial pond with waterfall, “dry” creek beds, billabong and frog ponds
  • Established organic orchards include citrus and stone fruit, apples, avocados, fig, quince, cherries, mulberry, macadamia and different berries and passionfruit and these are complemented by an olive grove
  • Prospector’s camp and diggings (reminiscent of the E Goldfields) and bird aviary
  • Approximately 50 different bird species have been identified on the property
  • Afternoon tea served with a glass of wine available from the outdoor entertaining area overlooking the Kalgan River
